Your treatment
At Wealden Osteopaths you are treated respectfully, as the unique person you are – not as a set of symptoms.
At your first consultation, you and your osteopath will spend several minutes in conversation, taking a case history. This will give your osteopath a full idea of your complaint, and allow him or her to formulate the most accurate diagnosis possible. Most importantly, your case history will establish whether you are safe to treat, or whether you should be referred to your doctor or another health professional.
Your safety is our primary concern. Osteopathy is a safe and natural form of healthcare. At Wealden Osteopaths, we will never undertake any treatment that we consider dangerous or harmful.
Following your case history, you will usually be asked to undress to your underwear, so that a full musculoskeletal evaluation can take place. This will involve a few simple movements to assess your range of motion, and some detailed orthopaedic and other tests, relevant to your specific complaint.
Once we have established that osteopathy is safe and appropriate for you, we will formulate and explain a course of treatment, tailored to your needs. Once you have agreed to this, your treatment can begin.
Your initial consultation will usually take between 60 and 80 minutes, and follow-up treatments between 30 and 40 minutes. However, treatment times vary according to the nature of your symptoms, and consultations can be longer or shorter than this.
